The ADI qualification is made up of 3 parts: A theory test (Part 1), a practical driving test (Part 2), and a teaching ability test (Part 3). Your training course will incorporate full training for each of the 3 parts to ensure that you are completely ready to pass each stage. So what is expected from you at each stage of the qualification process?
The first part of the ADI qualification process is a Theory Test. This is similar to the theory test for learner drivers, although far more in depth and with a much higher pass mark requirement.
From the date you pass your Part 1 test, you'll have 2 years to complete the next 2 parts of the qualification process. Part 2 tests your driving ability, and you will be examined on all aspects of driving over the course of around an hour. You will be required to perform all manoeuvres and drive at a very high standard for the duration of the test. From the date you pass your Part 1 test, you'll have 2 years to complete the next 2 parts of the qualification process. This final test examines your knowledge and ability to teach learners to drive. A mandatory minimum of 40 hours of training must be undertaken on this part of the qualification process. The exam is conducted by a senior examiner who will observe you teaching a pre-planned lesson.
